Matt grew up in Bellevue and the San Juan Islands, before attending Shawnigan Lake Preparatory School. Matt spent the next seven years at the University of Washington, first obtaining a B.A. in Economics, followed by his law degree in 1978. Matt graduated Magna Cum Laude and was awarded the Phi Beta Kappa academic honorary.
The focus of Matt's practice for more than 30 years has been real estate and business law, with a special emphasis on the acquisition, development, leasing and financing of commercial and multi-family real estate. His clients include commercial property owners, builders, developers, investors and lenders. Matt has guided clients through the development of over 600 residential, commercial, mixed use, and conversion condominium projects, as well as scores of single and multifamily residential developments. Matt has assisted clients in negotiating and completing many sophisticated real estate transactions, including both sales and financings in excess of $50,000,000. In recognition of Matt's expertise in real estate law, he has been a featured speaker at seminars for both attorneys and real estate professionals.
Matt has owned several businesses and uses that experience to provide his business clients with practical, bottom line oriented advice. He counsels companies on routine and complex business matters.
